Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero has regretted that the referees give preferential treatment to Lionel Messi.
He stated this while criticizing the referees after his country’s 1-0 defeat against Argentina in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, he wouldn’t even allow a simple touch from Lione Messi without the free-kick blowing.
He said the referee made life difficult for the Peruvian defenders marking Messi, even committing a foul for simply “touching” him.
Let us remember that Lautaro Martínez scored the only goal of the game on Tuesday in the 55th minute at La Bombonera.
The Albiceleste sits comfortably at the top of the CONMEBOL nations standings with 25 points from 12 games.
In a post-match interview, Peruvian star Guerrero indicated that the referee favored the 2022 World Cup winners and called fouls for any touch on Messi.
“The refereeing was on one side, Messi cannot be touched because they call him a foul for just touching him, and you in the press don’t say anything and you know it well.”
Messi created Martínez’s goal and also registered a shot on goal.
