Teddy Balkind, a high school hockey player, died after an ice skate slashed his neck in a collision.

The Connecticut high school hockey player whose throat was sliced open by a skate during a terrible event on the ice earlier this week has been named.

Teddy Balkind, a 10th grader at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, was killed in a private-school showdown on Thursday night.

What Happened To Teddy Balkind, Was He Wearing A Neck Guard Before His Fall:

Balkind, according to accounts, fell to the ice during the game. Officials reported that as he lay on the ground, another player nearby was unable to stop in time, and the two collided.

Apparently, it was not disclosed if the late ice hockey player was wearing a neck guard before his fall.

The game was immediately stopped and the young hockey player was rushed to Greenwich Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

His father had been present at the game, between Brunswick School, an all-boys college prep school in Greenwich, and St. Luke’s School, a co-ed private school.

On Friday evening, students and their families gathered outside of St. Luke’s School, which was closed during the day due to snow, to mourn the horrific loss.

“Yesterday, we lost a precious young man in a tragic accident,” St. Luke’s School said in a statement to students, obtained by CBS 2. “Both St. Luke’s School and Brunswick School are in shock as we work to support our students and families. St. Luke’s singular focus at this moment is to care for our devastated community.”
