Tyson Fury has offered his opinion on Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, highlighting areas where he believes both fighters could improve. He also expressed confidence in his own boxing abilities as he prepares for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in December.
Tyson Fury, affectionately called ‘Gypsy King’, is preparing to challenge Usyk for three heavyweight titles in Riyadh and has decided to stick with his unique boxing style rather than altering his approach.
In an interview with TNT, Fury emphasized the importance of maintaining his signature technique, saying: “I plan to approach it like I did before, focusing on effective boxing. With my size and weight, it is quite a feat to box and evade, so I see no reason to change that aspect of my game.”
Fury addressed common strategies suggested by fans and analysts, noting that if those approaches were simple, then fighters like Joshua and Dubois could have been successful in what he aims to prevail.
The British boxer noted: “People tell me I need to move towards Usyk, take him down and hit him, but if it was so easy, why didn’t Joshua, who is a big, strong man, do that? Why didn’t Dubois do it? Those men are limited compared to me, very limited.”
He added, “I think a more direct approach is a gift for Usyk. My style (boxing sideways, slip, slide) is effective and I am going to improve it with even more focus in this fight.”
Fury’s comments about Joshua and Dubois come at a time when there are ongoing discussions about their roles in the heavyweight division.
Joshua, now 34, faced a fifth-round knockout loss to Dubois in September, sparking speculation about his future direction.
Note that trainer Tony Sims has suggested that the long-awaited clash between Fury and Joshua could still be a possibility, depending on the outcome of Fury’s rematch with Usyk.
