And Maretazo has impacted the resorts and ports of the northern coast of Perucausing material damage. The artisanal fishermen of Tumbes and Piura have been particularly affected, since the sea conditions prevent them from carrying out their fishing activities, in addition to seeing their boats destroyed. Some who were at sea during the onset of the waves had to be assisted to return to dry land.

The Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy issued a final alert indicating that this phenomenon would last until January 2025 and has ordered the total closure of 91 ports on the Peruvian coast. Given this, local authorities urge the population not to enter the sea and to follow safety recommendations.
