The elected president of the United States, Donald Trumpannounced this Sunday that Brendan Carr will take over the leadership of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), entity in charge of regulating communications by radio, television, telephone, satellite and cable.

Carr, who already holds the position of highest-ranking Republican commissioner within the FCC, appears as a key player in the fight against the social network TikTokas Trump highlighted in his statement through his Truth Social platform.

“I am pleased to announce that Commissioner Brendan Carr will be Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. He is a free speech warrior and fought against the regulatory legal war that stifled Americans’ freedoms and slowed down (their) economy.“Trump stated.

Brendan Carr has been part of the FCC since 2017, when Trump proposed him during his first term. In his five years as commissioner, Carr received unanimous confirmation from the US Senate on three occasions. However, his relationship with the FCC began in 2012, when he served as an advisor to the agency’s then-chairman, Ajit Pai.

Carr, PhD in Law Cum Laude from the Catholic University of Americabuilt a solid career as a lawyer specialized in appeals, litigation and regulatory affairs, consolidating a technical and legal profile in the field of telecommunications.

During his tenure as commissioner, Carr positioned himself against TikTokcalling it a threat to user privacy.

He authored a chapter on the FCC in the controversial document Project 2025 that sought to lay out a vision for a second administration the Trump in which he also called for the regulation of the largest technology companies, such as Meta, Google and Apple.

He also insisted that TikTok should be removed from app stores. to protect the safety of American citizens.

In accepting the appointment, Carr expressed his commitment to the FCC’s priorities under the new administration.

Carr’s announcement joins other key appointments made in recent days by the president-elect. Among them stands out Steven Cheungdesignated as the next White House Communications Director.

Cheung, who already worked as director of strategic response during Trump’s first term, is emerging as a close collaborator of the president-elect.

Prior to his role in politics, Cheung worked as a spokesperson for the mixed martial arts organization Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)who maintains a close relationship with Trump.

As reported CNNthe president of the UFC, Dana Whiteis an “old friend” of the president, which underlines the personal and professional ties that characterize Trump’s environment.
