Ferrer would have been transferred to Bonito Penitentiary Centerwhich has a better equipped medical center, after the Mar Verde infirmary could not adequately care for him.

He has been admitted to the hospital for three days Room A from the Bonito infirmary, although no details have been disclosed about his state of health, which was already deteriorating due to previous conditions.

Cuban civil society organizations and personalities asked last August that the political and prisoner of conscience José Daniel Ferrer García be proposed to the Sakharov Prizegranted by the European Parliament.

For its part, the NGO Amnesty International (AI) declared four Cubans prisoners of conscience: the opposition Felix Navarrothe journalist and the lady in white Sayli Navarrothe protester of July 11, 2021 (11J) Roberto Perez Fonseca and the activist Luis Robles.

AI demanded in a statement his “immediate and unconditional release”, as well as that of all people “unjustly imprisoned solely for exercising their human rights” in Cuba and denounced the “context of systematic violations of human rights” and the “repression” and “criminalization of any form of dissidence” on the island.

The director of the Americas of AI, Ana Piquer, assured that these appointments are a “recognition” of the “courage and resistance of the people who in Cuba overcome permanent and generalized repression and fight” for human rights.
