The influence of modern media, especially TikTok and Instagram, has made many young people in the north become comedians, where some of them prepare and edit and release it with their phones only, which makes some say that it is a comeback. .
Between 1998 and 2000, the Kannywood industry created two factions: camama and sentimental, where although there was a dispute between them, they entertained the audience, especially in northern Nigeria.
Chamama films are mostly produced in villages, and not much money is spent on production.
On the other hand, sentimental films are more structured than romantic ones, and romantic films are more common.
Among the famous camama heroes are Rabilu Musa Ibro who often appears as his wife namely Tsigai, Kulu, Yautai, Malam Dare, Daushe and Bosho.
There are also modern comedians, who are uploading on their social media pages people laughing and having fun.
The origin is sentimental
Malam Ibrahim Sheme, an expert on Hausa films, said that most of the Hausa films are comedies, which are made in a lame way, while sentimental films are the most well-planned and time-consuming.
“Camama are the comedy films of Ibro, Tsigai, Kulu and Yautai etc. I can’t explain the day when the word was first used, but since the beginning of Hausa films, camama films have been made. They are the aim of the films that are being made is to be crippled with little money,” he said.
He added that, “sentimental films are more effective, they follow the rules of film production and it takes a long time to make them, compared to other films,” said Sheme.
Dr. Muhsin Ibrahim, a teacher at the University of Cologne in Germany, said that in his research, he did not find out exactly when the two words were first used, and added that such divisions are not only found in Kannywood. not, “Even Hollywood in America gets like that.”
But he added that when the late Rabilu Musa Ibro was with him, the movies, even though they were made with little money, some of them were more sentimental than the money raised.
Rabiu Daushe, the famous son of Camama, said that they created the two names between them.
“They are the sentimental part of the romantic and cheesy movies, and they think that they are doing dirty comedy. That’s why they started to call them scumbags, where they limit that with a little money you can put together a movie and you’re done.”
He added that the people of Camamar also responded, where “they think that the people of love movies are singing and they are bringing harm to their work, that is, they will insult them. At that time, Ibro, Kulu and Yautai, if they were in a movie, they say ‘those are sentimental’. In other words, when the sentimental people do something, they say, ‘What about them?’
Is it over in Kannywood?
In the past, especially when the late one was seeing him, there was a situation where the tension got worse between the gangsters and the sentimental ones in the Kannywood industry, where they were lashing out at each other.
Daushe said at that time, “you will hear some sentimental people saying that the movie is just rubbish, how much they spent. How can you connect their movie with us. There is a movie I am watching called Ba’asi, where they made a moon in it. song they are saying ‘it’s a shame that she got it now, are you or are you noke-nokeee, bride.’
Daushe added that he is also Ibro in the movie ‘Ibro Dankwairo’ there was a song that said, “We now go away, the market immediately brings profit.”
However, Daushe said that there has been no stopping of gossiping, because “Now if you go on tiktok before you see the things that have spread about five love stories, you will gossip about 50. But all comedians are gossipers, that is, those who plan to make fun of me. A few minutes and one can watch and have fun.”
Daushe said that the shooting will never stop, “because it is done all over the world, and it will be done in different languages, but you will also laugh. That’s why the movie page was opened with him, and if you will stop, then it is the end.”
Daushe confirmed the tension between the two parties, “there was a time when a film was made between the leaders of the two parties in order to achieve reconciliation, but after the film things got worse. it became a story.”
In regards to the decline in the cinematography, Dr Muhsin said that progress has come.
According to him, “It was the death of Ibro that caused the decline of the sector even though before his death he had made films in the city such as Karangiya, Maja, Hajiya, and others.”
Muhsin added that this was brought about by development, “for example, Carmen McCain told me that when the movie ‘Ibro marries Baturia’ was made, she did not know about the movie, she just went to a research, and was told that Baturia, the film was prepared immediately.”
