The traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade Macy’s has already taken over New York. One of the biggest attractions of this event are the giant balloons filled with helium that float through the most important streets of Manhattan.
This year, 17 of them were exhibited, among which characters such as the classic Snoopy and new additions such as Spider-Man y Minnie Mouse. In addition, the parade includes 15 innovative inflatables that further expand the range of figures that decorate the city’s sky.
The now historic parade began in 1924 as an initiative of the department store Macy’s to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. Since its origins, this event has evolved to become one of the most iconic traditions in USAgathering millions of viewers on the streets of Manhattan and through television broadcasts.
In its early years, the parade floats featured scenes inspired by classic fairy tales. Among the most notable representations of that time were characters such as Mother Goose, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolfy Miss Muffet with the Spider, all designed to capture the imagination of children and adults alike. These floats, decorated in detail, represented a way of transporting the public to fantastic worlds in the middle of the bustling streets of New York, according to information from The Associated Press (AP).
