Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka will spend a long period on the sidelines after successfully undergoing surgery for an Achilles tendon injury.

Olayinka was substituted in Red Star Belgrade’s UEFA Champions League match against AS Monaco last week after suffering the injury.

Red Star Belgrade has confirmed that he underwent surgery after the setback.

“Peter Olayinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a famous doctor, after an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco.” the club said in a statement.

“Everything has gone well and we are waiting for the post-operative period to be over so we can estimate the return time of the Zvezda footballer. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”

The striker is expected to spend between six and nine months out.

He scored two goals and registered two assists in six league games for Red Star Belgrade this season.
