As per BBC, MacGill was allegedly forced into a car by a group of men at about 8 pm that day. He was then taken to a property and was assaulted and threatened with a gun. Later the kidnappers released him after about an hour.

According to cops, no money was paid to the kidnappers, but the motive for the kidnapping was financial.

As of now, 4 men have been arrested and charged on 5th May 2021.
