The president of Paraguay, Santiago Penawas transferred urgently this Monday from the G20 summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, due to an “indisposition,” sources from the Paraguayan Presidency reported in Asunción. The episode occurred at the Museum of Modern Art, where Peña was participating in the event’s activities.
The vice president of Paraguay, Pedro Allianaconfirmed that the president is in good condition after being hospitalized in the Samaritan Hospital of Rio de Janeiro.
According to Alliana, Peña suffered a “slight illness,” but his health does not represent a cause for concern.
“I spoke with President Santiago Peña, who is at the Samaritan Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after a slight illness. He is fine and awaiting the results of his medical tests.“, he noted in a message on the social network X.
Hours after his admission, the Samaritano Hospital issued a statement in Portuguese in which it reported that the president was admitted on the night of November 18 after experiencing discomfort during the afternoon and as a preventive measure, diagnostic tests were performed.
“The patient became unwell in the afternoon and, for safety reasons, went to the hospital for diagnostic tests. The head of state is well and his current state of health is stable”says the text.
As revealed to Infobae sources close to the Paraguayan president, Peña suffered an episode of “very high blood pressure”: “It was a scare”.
Peña traveled this Sunday to Rio de Janeiro, where he participated in this day of the G20 leaders’ conclave.
The president announced this Monday on his account on the social network Republican will lead starting next January.
During the dialogue, which lasted several minutes, Peña congratulated Trump on his recent victory in the US presidential elections. Likewise, he invited him to visit Paraguay, which would mark a historic event, since it would be the first time that a United States leader made an official visit to the South American country.
After the meeting, Peña published a message on his X account: “Thank you very much @realDonaldTrump for the phone conversation today. Paraguay and the United States maintain a fraternal friendship and a historical relationship of collaborationand I am sure that under your Presidency and with your vision those ties will become even closer, under the ideals of freedom and the prosperity”.
The leaders committed to strengthen bilateral relations, assuming that both have the same global agenda.
Peña was one of the first Latin American leaders to congratulate Trump on his re-election in the United States and declared himself convinced that they will continue to strengthen cooperation for the benefit of their countries.
The Paraguayan president, who turned 46 on Saturday, was sworn in as president in August 2023, becoming the youngest leader of the democratic era that the South American country inaugurated after the fall of Alfredo Stroessner’s dictatorship (1954- 1989).
