Ricky Waumsley: Stephen Port Victim Case
Daniel Whitworth was living with his boyfriend Ricky Waumsley in Kent when tragedy befell the happy home of two.
On September 18, 2014, Daniel never returned home. He had been working as a chef in Canary Wharf in London.
He was later found dead in a churchyard in Barking only a few distances away from where Gabriel Kovari had been found dead some weeks before.
Detectives said that Daniel Whitworth committed suicide after leaving a note. He felt guilty after causing the death of Gabriel Kovari.
The note was fake produced by Stephen Port who wanted to cover his tracks. The father of Daniel told jurors he never confirmed the suicide note found was written by his son.
Whitworth and Waumsley kept in touch every day via text when they were apart. Their messages would have served as key evidence to where Daniel was at the time when Gabriel’s body had been found.
Proper checks weren’t done by the police department. If it had been done, it would have been clear that Daniel was nowhere near Barking when Gabriel’s body was found.
In 2015, it was discovered that officers had not DNA-tested the bedsheet or the drug bottles.
