Fans of French footballer Paul Pogba have expressed their frustration after his long-awaited return to the field was canceled just four days before he was due to start playing.
The former Manchester United midfielder previously received a four-year ban from playing after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone following Juventus’ opening match of the 2023-24 season.
Pogba successfully appealed his original suspension, which was subsequently reduced to just 18 months and the World Cup winner was allowed to return to competitive action in March 2025.
The 31-year-old plans to restart his career with the termination of his contract with Juventus and is now trying to regain his fitness by playing in exhibition competitions.
His first return to action was scheduled to take place in the King’s Cup clash in Dubai, but he will now miss the tournament which was due to start in the Middle East next week.
The football legends were due to go head to head at the exhibition with John Terry and Paul Scholes among those alongside Pogba, but the event has been canceled at the last minute.
Organizers cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the game’s cancellation and it has now been postponed until February, with refunds offered to ticket holders.
Announcing the decision to reschedule the icon match, the organization said: “Dear football fans, we regret to inform you that the Dubai King’s Cup has been rescheduled to February 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances.
‘For refunds, visit the Platinum listing website and follow the instructions on your ticket.
‘We will soon announce specific dates for the rescheduled event, so stay tuned for updates. Thank you for your understanding and support -Team King’s Cup,’ he added.
Fans were furious with the decision and expressed their anger at the organization as the late cancellation caused massive problems for some ticket holders.
