The Nigerian Flamingos on Wednesday recorded a 4-1 victory over New Zealand in the ongoing Group A campaign of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2024.
Shakirat Moshood, Khadijat Adegoke, Faridat Abdulawahab and Taiwo Afolabi scored to give Nigeria a well-deserved victory.
New Zealand’s goal was scored by Hannah Saxon.
Moshood opened the scoring in the 2nd minute when he received a pass, beat his marker inside the box before firing a low shot with his left foot into the bottom corner.
Adegoke doubled the Flamingos’ lead in the 13th minute after his long-range shot was missed by the goalkeeper, who saw the ball cross the line despite his efforts to avoid it.
The Flamencos took a 3-0 lead thanks to Abdulwahab, who scored a delightful shot from outside the box.
Flamencos captain Afolabi scored the fourth goal with a magnificent header from a cross.
New Zealand scored a goal when Hannah Saxon controlled a corner kick and shot with her left foot past the Flamingos goalkeeper.
The Flamencos will return to action on Saturday, October 19 against debutant Ecuador.
Meanwhile, hosts Dominican Republic will face Ecuador later on Wednesday.
