The 41º Miami Book Fair starts the Sunday, November 17, 2024 in it MDC Wolfson Campus with an important agenda in both English and Spanish. Featured authors such as Gina Montaner, Jim DeFede, Billy Corben, Alfred Spellman, Don Lemon, Mayra Santos Febres y Amir Tibon They will be present to present their works and participate in conferences and conversations with the public.
The opening, at 3:00 pmis run by the journalist and writer Gina Montanerwho will present Wish me a good tripa heartfelt work about his father’s decision, Carlos Alberto Montanerto take advantage of the euthanasia in Spain. In it Auditoriumthe main room, the writer and journalist will dialogue with Gloria Ordaz to tell his personal experience in the difficult farewell of the Cuban dissident intellectual of enormous weight in the Latin community of Miami.
Also at 3:00 pm the journalist meets Jim DeFede and the filmmakers Billy Corben y Alfred Spellman in the panel “The true story of the Miami ‘Cocaine Cowboys’”. in the room 3210 Chapman Building They will remember the stories of drug traffickers Augusto Willy Falcon y Salvador Magluta. DeFede has documented coverage of the case and contributed to The Chronicles of Willy & Salwhich details the lives of these notorious characters. Corben and Spellman, known for their series Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miamiwill offer their perspective on these historic events.
At 4:00 pm, Don Lemon presents his book I Once Was Lost: My Search for God in America. This event is ticketed ($35, which includes the purchase of the book) and will take place at the auditorium of the MDC Wolfson Campus. In this work, the renowned journalist reflects on his relationship with religion and his search for meaning in a complex sociopolitical context. The author examines stories that have influenced his life and career in an environment marked by distrust of institutions.
At 5:00 pmthe Puerto Rican writer Mayra Santos Febres talks about The other Juliaa work in which he narrates the life of the poet Julia de Burgos. The author will dialogue with the writer Anjanette Delgado about the work and difficult career of Burgos, today recognized as a central figure in Latin American literature. This event will also take place at the auditorium of the MDC Wolfson Campus.
Finally, at 5:30 pm, Amir Tibon present his book The Gates of Gaza: A Story of Betrayal, Survival, and Hope in Israel’s Borderlands. In this event, also with a ticket (USD 35), Tibon narrates his personal experience during the Hamas attack al Kibbutz Nahal Ozwhere he lived with his family, October 7, 2023, and explores the complexity of the conflict between Israel y Gaza and the impact on your community.
The Miami Book Fair takes place in the Campus Wolfson del Miami-Dade Collegein Downtown (300 NE Second Ave, Miami, FL 33132) and online.
