Messi equals Ronaldo’s record after hat-trick against Bolivia

The Argentine captain, Lionel Messi, has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.

He achieved it after scoring a hat-trick against Bolivia in a qualification match for the 2026 World Cup.

Messi scored three times and provided two assists as his country cruised to a 6-0 victory.

It was the 37-year-old’s 10th international hat-trick, equaling Ronaldo’s record.

The Albiceleste are on course to qualify from South America, as they are currently three points clear of second-placed Colombia and six clear of arch-rivals Brazil.

That same night, Ronaldo failed to score for Portugal, which drew 0-0 in Scotland in the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo was clearly frustrated after the match and could be seen throwing tantrums.
