Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado thanked this Tuesday for the support expressed by the G7 countries towards the victory of the standard bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), Edmundo González Urrutia in the presidential elections of July.
“We appreciate this new declaration of the G7, under the Presidency of Italy, which demonstrates the magnitude of international support for the fight for democracy in Venezuela”expressed Machado in your social network account X.
Likewise, he celebrated that the political and economic forum reaffirmed its call for a “democratic transition” in the country and demanded the end of political persecution and the release of all political prisoners.
“On July 28, the Venezuelan people expressed themselves clearly at the polls, voting for democratic change and supporting Edmundo González Urrutia with a significant majority. “We will continue to support the efforts of regional partners to facilitate a democratic and peaceful transition, with Venezuelan guidance, that guarantees respect for the will of the voters,” the joint statement states.
For its part, the regime of Nicolás Maduro rejected the statement of G7 and warned that it will review its diplomatic relations with the countries that make up the coalition (Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, United Kingdom and United States).
Through a statement, the Chavista dictatorship described the position of the G7 as an “interference and arrogant attitude.”
“We warn the G7 countries that this attitude will not go unanswered“, states the text, ensuring that the regime “will proceed to comprehensively review its relations with each of the governments that make up this group because respect for national sovereignty is not negotiable.”
In his writingthe Nicolás Maduro regime rejected what it described as an “absurd pronouncement by the G7″, whom he accused of acting as “arbiter of global democracy while covering up his own political, economic and moral failures.”
Besides, accused the group of “supporting genocides” and “stimulate Nazi and fascist ideology in Europe and the world.” The statement also criticized the support of the G7 to the opposition candidate Gonzalez Urrutiadescribing it as “ironic” that these countries intend to “give lessons on popular will and electoral processes.”
Maduro’s foreign minister made reference to the recognition of former deputy Juan Guaidó as interim president in 2019, calling it “the loudest of ridiculous things.”
Meanwhile, Gonzalez Urrutiawho is a refugee in Spain, maintains his position of assuming the presidency next January 10. “There is no doubt that on January 10 we will take possession. “We are putting up a fight”declared during the International Meeting with Activists.
The opponent also stated that the date will mark the beginning of “the reconstruction of Venezuela”. “Everyone is determined that the next 10E the reconstruction of Venezuela will beginfrom every place you are,” he promised.
The Venezuelan leader affirmed this Monday that he is “morally prepared” to face his possible arrest if he returns to Caracas on January 10 to assume the presidency of Venezuela.
According to the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), it would be advisable for the country for Maduro to leave power, since his permanence affects “the health of all Venezuelans.” Despite this, he defends a peaceful transition in which Chavismo has a place in the political future of the country.
