Manchester United announces new coach and confirms start date

Rubén Amorim has been announced as the new manager of Manchester United.

This was confirmed by the club on Friday.

However, Amorim will remain at Sporting Lisbon until November 11.

The 39-year-old signed a contract until June 2027, with the option of a further year, and will take charge of his first game for United at Ipswich on November 24.

United have paid Sporting an additional €1m (£840,000) on top of their €10m (£8.4m) release clause for an early release from their 30-day notice period.

He replaces Erik ten Hag, who was sacked last month, while Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge of the first team until Amorim joins.

United host Chelsea on Sunday. It has not yet been decided whether Van Nistelrooy will be part of Amorim’s coaching staff.
