The London Metropolitan Police confirmed this Friday that its agents have carried out a controlled detonation by one suspicious package located in the vicinity of the United States Embassy in the British capital.
In a message on X, the Met indicated that The area near the North American legation in the United Kingdom has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
“We are aware of online speculation about an incident near the US Embassy in Nine Elms”, the police noted in a message.
The police force also indicated that “there is a police cordon installed in the area as a precaution while officers investigate a suspicious package.”
“We can confirm that “the ‘loud roar’ heard in the area recently was a controlled explosion carried out by agents,” the message added.
Meanwhile, A “large part” of the southern terminal at Gatwick Airport, south of London, has been evacuated as a precautionary measure while investigating a “security incident” not specified.
As the airport, the second busiest in the United Kingdom, published on its social network account X, passengers will not be able to enter that terminal while the incident is resolved.
“We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The safety of our passengers and our staff remains our top priority,” the airfield said in the message.
Likewise, he asked all travelers to check with the airlines about the status of their planned flights.
As reported by the BBC, all rail services stopping at Gatwick are not stopping at that stationand they will continue not to do so for at least an hour.
According to the same source, buses bound for the airport no longer have access to the facilities either.
