A man who was walking in the early morning of October 20 in the Maracana neighborhood of Montevideo He was intercepted by a teenager and his partner in the middle of the street in that peripheral area of the Uruguayan capital. They were joined by the woman’s sister, who He began to chase the victim and hit him. The attacked person tried to enter a house, but was unsuccessful: They grabbed him by the feet and dragged him down the street.
According to the theory of the Prosecutor’s Office reported this Wednesday by The Country, The beating of the man continued for six minutes.a period in which another person joined the attacks. The outcome was fatal: The man was found dead in a ditch.
A little more than 10 days after this man was beaten to death in the Maracaná neighborhood, Justice charged four people, who are being investigated for alleged responsibility in this event. Added to this is a fifth person investigated, who is a minor.
The Prosecutor’s Office gathered the testimony of two witnesses, who assured that one of the sisters recognized what she had done. “I think I killed him. I beat him up (…) I broke his head“said one of the attackers, according to the story of a neighbor who heard her before she left the crime scene. The victim was also stabbed.
The Prosecutor’s Office considered that the attackers acted “viciously”, but the motive for the attack is not clear. One of the hypotheses reported by the Uruguayan newspaper is that they acted out of revenge. A witness testified that the victim hit the aggressors’ cat, although another of those who testified indicated that there was a problem with one of the sisters.
The victim was beaten to death and, through an autopsy, it was learned that he also received a stab wound. A reserved witness also said that a stone was thrown at his head. And he detailed: “They were totally blinded, like they were making sure to kill him.”
When the man fell to the floor – according to this story – the attackers began to hit him everywhere on the floor. The victim was left “with a lot of blood” lying on the floor and in an unconscious state: he did not scream or ask for help.
The man and his partner arrived at the scene minutes after the attack began. The moments before and after the beating are filmed, although not the event itself. In the images it is seen that the two arrived with the attacks already underway, but they leave with the rest of the group. In the video it is not clear if they arrived with knives in their hands, an object that could be the one used in the stabbing.
The Homicide Prosecutor’s Office pointed out four adults as responsible for the homicide and left out the responsibility of the teenager, who is being investigated by an Adolescent prosecutor. Prosecutor Andrea Naupp asked that all adults be imprisoned preventively, but Judge Diego González ruled that the man and his partner not go to prison while the investigation progresses.
The judge reported The Countryargued: “There are two witnesses who saw them carrying weapons, but that is not enough to prove a homicide if a projection were made towards an oral trial. However, I know that the investigation is beginning and that they are also precautionary measures, but if in doubt that this is not going to improve, I prefer to adopt a lesser measure.”
The Prosecutor’s Office appealed that the couple not go to preventive detention and argued that the only way to ensure the normal development of the process is with all the accused in prison. The defense, meanwhile, questioned the decision for one of the accused to go to jail: she asked that it be taken into account that she is a single mother and that she has to take care of a child.
