He Israeli Army intercepted a drone fired from Yemen, hours after it disabled a ballistic missile this Fridayalso from the same country, which set off alarms in central Israel, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
”The unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted before crossing into Israeli territory. The sirens did not sound in accordance with protocol,” indicates the Israeli army statement published in X.
A few hours earlier, security forces announced that they had intercepted a missile that was launched from Yemen and that had crossed into Israeli territory. In addition, authorities indicated that a report was received about fragments of the interception that fell in the area of Modi’inin the center of the country, and that “the details are under review.”
As a result of this, Israel’s national emergency service, Belly David Adomreported that it treated several injured people and others who suffered panic attacks as they headed to shelters after air raid sirens sounded in central and southern Israel.
This is not the first incident of its kind. Last Tuesday, Israel also reported the interception of another missile launched from Yemen.
The rebel group Houthissupported by Iran and which controls much of Yemen’s territory, intensified its missile and drone attacks against Israel and against vessels in the Red Sea and the Golfo de Aden.
The Houthis noted that these attacks are a show of solidarity with the Palestinians during the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah In November, the Houthis increased their offensives. For its part, Israel also responded with attacks against Yemen, including bombings on the international airport of Sana at the end of December.
The representative of Israel before the HIM, Danny Danondescribed this Monday before the United Nations Security Council the recent missile launches by the rebels Houthis of Yemen like a “systematic and calculated terror”noting that these actions represent a serious threat to regional stability and global trade.
“We have no dispute with them. Despite this, They send their missiles and drones to murder our people. Because? Pure, radical and jihadist hatred towards Jews”said Danon, who also stated that the Houthis evolved from being a rebel group to becoming a “terrorist army,” thanks to the support of Iran and to the “complicity of the international community.”
Danon stressed that Iran’s support for the Houthis constitutes a direct violation of the resolutions 2140 y 2722 of the UN Security Council, which, according to the diplomat, represents an attack on the principles of sovereignty and the International law.
Furthermore, he blamed the UN for failing to fulfill its responsibilities, stating that ships docked in the Yemeni port of Hodeida this year without being inspected, which would have allowed arms trafficking to the Houthis. “The complacency of the international community has given free rein to terrorism”he assured.
Danon warned that the Houthis represent a direct threat to the Suez Canalone of the most important trade routes in the world. “They are completely strangling the Suez Canal, this critical global trade route used by almost all nations. The implications of such a scenario are unthinkable”he recalled.
The Israeli representative made it clear that his country will not wait for the international community to act against the Houthis. “Israel will protect its citizens, no matter where the threat comes from,” he stated bluntly.
Danon reiterated that the Houthis are “a terrorist group that attacks trade routes, collaborates with global terrorist networks and is armed by Iran,” which, in his opinion, reinforces the need for an immediate response from the international community to stop the threats emanating from Yemen.
