The Government of Israelled by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuconfirmed this Sunday the discovery of the lifeless body of the rabbi Zvi Koganan Israeli-Moldovan citizen who had been missing since Thursday.
In a joint statement, the prime minister’s office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Israeli Embassy in Abu Dhabi has been in contact with the family since the beginning of the incident and continues to provide support. They have also notified relatives residing in Israel of the case.
The Israeli Government has called Kogan’s death a “despicable anti-Semitic terrorist act” and pledged to bring those responsible to justice using all available means.
Furthermore, the National Security Council has urged both Israeli citizens and members of the Jewish community in United Arab Emirates to take extreme precautions and follow travel recommendations. The president of Israel, Isaac Herzogexpressed on the social network X his rejection of the attack, which he described as a “vile anti-Semitic attack.”
“This act is a reminder of the inhumanity of the enemies of the Jewish people. However, it will not stop us in our efforts to build thriving communities in the UAE and anywhere in the world,” Herzog said.
Rabbi Kogan was an assistant to the rabbi Levi Yitzchakleader of the Jewish community in the United Arab Emirates, and maintained ties with Rabbi Gavriel Holtzbergwho lost his life during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Although some Israeli media, such as the channel N12have suggested that the rabbi may have been kidnapped by terrorist groups linked to Iranthe authorities have not issued official confirmation of this hypothesis.
This incident has raised alarm bells in the region, highlighting the need to strengthen the security of Jewish communities and Israeli citizens abroad.
