The world premiere of the German-French film The light (The Light-La Luz), by the German director Tom Tykwerwill open the 75th edition of the Berlin International Film Festivalwhich will start next February 13, and will do so out of competition, within the section Berlinale Special Galathe organization announced this Thursday in a statement.
“As soon as we saw The light We knew immediately that we wanted the 75th Berlinale to open. Tom Tykwer Find beauty and joy in our often fractured and challenging world. It magically captures the essence of our modern life on screen. “It is a great pleasure to welcome Tom back to the Berlinale,” said the festival director, Tricia Tuttle.
For his part, Tykwer, who opened the festival on two previous occasions, in 2002, with Heaven (in the sky), his first international production; and in 2009, with the political thriller The International (International agent“), said he was “delighted” to open the festival with his most recent film. “The Berlinale is the festival of my life. The light tells the story of the Engels family, which consists of Tim (Lars Eidinger), Milena (Nicolette Krebitz), their twins in common, Frieda (Every Biesendorfer) y Jon (Julius Gause), and Milena’s son, Dio (Elyas Eldridge). They form a family that lives together but nothing keeps them together until the housekeeper Farrah (Tala Al-Deen).
The mysterious woman from Syria subjects the Engels’ world to an unexpected test and unearths feelings that had remained hidden for a long time. In the process, he pursues a plan of his own that will radically change the family’s life.
In his film, Tykwer shows the daily life of a middle-class German family in a world that is spinning at great speed and has become unstable, the statement added.
Among the filmmaker’s most notable works are Run, Lola, run (1998); The Perfume (2006); Cloud Atlas (2012); and more recently the television series Babylon Berlin.
