The Brazilian deputy Eduardo Bolsonaroson of former president Jair Bolsonaro, published a statement this Saturday in which he questioned the recent arrest of two Brazilian citizens in Argentina and the order to arrest 61 others. “I trust that the laws of the country will be respected during the government of President Javier Milei, whom I admire,” he wrote. He also highlighted Werthein’s work, which he described as “excellent.”
Bolsonaro also took advantage of the statement to make harsh criticism of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s governmentaccusing him of leading a totalitarian regime that violates basic human rights and persecutes political opponents. assured that those detained in Argentina are victims of persecution similar to what, according to him, other Brazilian dissidents face abroad.

The son of former president Jair Bolsonaro called for the unity of right-wing sectors globally to counter what he described as a “totalitarian international system of persecution” promoted by the left. According to the statement, Brazil’s Liberal Party is working to create “an international system for the defense of human freedoms” and to hold accountable those responsible for abuses of power in Brazil.
This message from Eduardo Bolsonaro arrives in a context of tense relations between Brazil and Argentinamarked by the opposing political approaches of their respective governments. While Milei has assumed a discourse aligned with conservative sectors, Lula da Silva represents a progressive vision in the region.
The detention of the Brazilians in Argentina has also generated reactions both inside and outside of both countries. The Police of the Argentine province of Buenos Aires arrested this Friday Rodrigo De Freitas Moro Ramalho, a Brazilian who had an international arrest warrant for the assault perpetrated by followers of Jair Bolsonaro on January 8, 2023 against the headquarters of the three branches of government in Brasilia.
De Freitas Moro Ramalho, 34, was detained in the city of La Plata, about 50 kilometers south of the Argentine capital, when he was detected when he went to carry out immigration procedures.

With great regret I learned of the arrest of political exiles in Argentina. Unfortunately, they were arrested despite having a request for political asylum, which grants legal protection against any extradition attempt by the Brazilian State. Apparently the arrest was carried out illegally, by a judge linked to the Argentine radical left. However, at least there, the totalitarian state is not as advanced as in Brazil and there are still institutional tools to prevent this type of abuse of authority.
I trust that the laws of the country will be respected during the government of President Javier Milei, whom I admire. I also count on the excellence of the new chancellor Gerardo Werthein, who is doing a beautiful job. I truly believe that these Brazilians will not have their rights violated in Argentina. We will not see the elderly, mothers, people with special needs and all kinds of ordinary people – madly accused of attempted coup d’état, by the tyranny that prevails in Brazil – being deported by the Argentine government. Marbles, slingshots and lipstick can be used as evidence to accuse someone of a coup d’état in Brazil, but, in the civilized world, they are the source of regrettable jokes, due to the tragicomic situation we live in. These people will not be, once again, victims of the cruel virulence of the psychopaths who now hold power in Brazil. It will be another shameful international defeat for the Brazilian tyranny, which failed to try to extradite, for example, Brazilian journalists living in the United States, under the same asylum conditions as these sixty-one Brazilians who now live in Argentina.

I will act tirelessly in defense of the most basic human freedoms, always guided by the constitutional principles of due process of law, broad, adversarial defense, natural judge and adversarial system, all of which have already been violated in Brazil. Just as the global left united to create a totalitarian international system of persecution, we, the right, united to stop this tyranny and create an international system to defend human freedoms. Today we have already managed to reach a good level of international awareness, thanks to the work we all did in free countries. The world already knows that Brazil is a systematic violator of the most basic human freedoms. Today, free nations can already realize that the public authorities of Brazil have as much credit as the public authorities of Venezuela, Cuba or Nicaragua, perverse dictatorial and autocratic regimes. Today, any serious person knows that these public officials are mere human rights violators, cruel agents of the ongoing political persecution in Brazil.
Just as Interpol has refused to include the names of these persecuted politicians on the international list of wanted persons (red screen), the Argentine government authorities will not allow Brazilian authoritarian delusions to find fertile soil in their country. The crazy narrative, which attempts to transform ordinary people into dangerous threats to the rule of law, will not go beyond the event horizon of radical militancy in newsrooms submissive to the extreme left and/or in the pompous atmosphere of the trained despotic bureaucracy. We will continue our international work, seeking to stop the rampage of human rights violators in Brazil.
