Who Is Dale G Relund?

During the 185th Semiannual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale G Relund was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was one of three Apostles called to serve on October 3, 2015, alongside Elder Ronald A. Rasband and Elder Gary E. Stevenson.

He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an M.D. He subsequently moved on to Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for a three-year internal medicine residency and a three-year cardiology fellowship.

Following that, Renlund served as bishop of an LDS ward while at Johns Hopkins. Ruth, his wife, was attending law school at the time.

Later, Renlund joined the University of Utah faculty in 1986 as a professor. He was an expert in heart transplants as a cardiologist. He was the medical director of the Cardiac Transplant Program at Utah Transplantation Affiliated Hospitals from 1991 until 2009.

Dale was also named director of the Intermountain Health Center’s Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment Program in Salt Lake City in 2000.
