Real Madrid youngster Marc Cucalón has retired from football.

He retired at age 19 after falling victim to a rare infection in 2022.

This is according to Sportskeeda.

Cucalón, born in Zaragoza, would not continue playing football after a two-year battle against a bacterial infection in his knee.

The midfielder captained the club’s Youth A side in 2022 and played alongside now Como star Nico Paz in the academy.

Let us remember that Cucalón suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament after a strong tackle when the Los Blancos under-19 team faced Celtic in the UEFA Youth League in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2022.

He was 17 years old at the time, but he never returned to a soccer field.

He underwent surgery to fix the problem, but bacteria infiltrated the cartilage used to replace the anterior cruciate ligament during the surgery.

This caused a rare infection that has prevented the midfielder from doing any physical exercise on his knee since.

Cucalón was highly valued at La Fábrica, where his technical qualities with the ball earned him comparisons with Xabi Alonso.
