Ballon d’Or boss Vincent Garcia has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is now abstaining from voting.
Garcia also appeared to suggest that Ronaldo is among those “very upset” with the award decisions.
The Portuguese superstar has won the award five times in the past, second only to Lionel Messi, who has eight.
Ronaldo has not been named the best footballer on the planet since 2017 either.
After Messi’s last win in 2023, Ronaldo liked an Instagram post that claimed Messi had won three too many Ballon d’Ors.
This year, neither Messi nor Ronaldo appear in the shortlist of 30, the first time this has happened in 21 years.
Garcia told The Times: “The winners have the right to return to all future ceremonies but not all of them come, some are very upset with us.
“I’m not sure Cristiano is, I don’t speak to him directly, but I know, for example, that the former winners vote for the Kopa Trophy – for the best young player – and Cristiano didn’t vote last year and he didn’t vote this year either. ”.
